Government

TCI is a British Overseas Territory with a system of local self-government with the Queen as its head of state, represented locally by a British- appointed Governor. TCI prides itself on its many years of political stability.

Legal System

TCI’s legal system is based upon the English Common Law administered through a Magistrates Court, a Supreme Court and a Court of Appeal with a final Right of Appeal to the UK’s Privy Council.

Currency

TCI’s currency is the United States dollar and there are no Foreign Exchange controls.

Financial Services Regulation

TCI’s Financial Services Commission, an independent parastatal body, regulates the licensing and operation of entities and persons engaged in company formation, banking, insurance, limited partnerships and limited life company and trusts activities and, in general, supervises TCI’s financial services activity with the active involvement of a private-sector led Financial Industry Association and a Financial Services Initiative (FSI) entity. Insurance is governed by the Insurance Ordinance 1989-as amended.
